The University of Calabar (UNICAL) Alumni, Lagos Chapter, led by their Chairman, Dr. Emmanuel Onyenuche, recently paid a courtesy visit to the Covenant University Management, to strengthen ties between the two institutions and explore potential partnerships.
In his remarks, the Chairman of the Alumni Association, Dr. Emmanuel Onyenuche, expressed his excitement about meeting the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Abiodun H. Adebayo, who is also a UNICAL alumnus and discussed the Alumni Association’s efforts to strengthen its network by connecting with Covenant University.
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Adebayo, emphasized the importance of alumni networks in building strong university communities. He encouraged the Alumni to reflect on their time at UNICAL and strive to give back to their alma mater. He commended the alumni for their initiative in reconnecting and expressed his commitment to supporting their future endeavors.
Earlier in her welcome remarks the Registrar, Mrs. Regina A. Tobi-David, warmly welcomed the group, stating that their visit was a welcome event. She described Covenant as the ‘birthplace of kings and queens,’ and emphasized the University’s commitment to raising a new generation of leaders across various fields of human endeavor.
She highlighted Covenant University’s recent ranking which made her number one in Nigeria, number one in West Africa, and number seven in Africa.
Professor Akan Williams, Dean of the School of Postgraduate Studies and a UNICAL alumnus, also welcomed the group, expressing optimism about potential collaborations to further enhance the University’s ranking.
Making his remarks at the event, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olujide A. Adekeye, shared fond memories of his time at UNICAL during his Master’s program in 2001, praising the city’s cleanliness and delicious cuisine. He expressed gratitude for the Alumni’s visit and encouraged them to remain active within the alumni network.
The event concluded with the exchange of gifts between the University and the alumni. Looking ahead, the alumni proposed hosting an annual general meeting in August, along with a conference to discuss relevant topics and issues. Professor Adebayo accepted the invitation to be the keynote speaker at the conference, highlighting his dedication to supporting the alumni association.
