Making a reference to a scripture in 2 Chronicles 27: 6, “So Jotham became mighty because he prepared his ways before the Lord,” he admonished the students not to join those who play, as those who play around do not have an assurance of a great tomorrow; hence, they play with their academics. The mightiness of Jotham, he said, has a root in his preparation.
According to him, this means, as God’s word has stated, “It will take your preparation to get there, no one becomes a doctor without passing through the Medical School. No one becomes an engineer without passing through the School of Engineering.”
Pastor Owojaiye, who is also the Secretary, Board of Regents of the University, stated that “God has said this year will be better, so we need to prepare to become what God has said. It takes preparation. If this year will be best for you academically, that means you must increase your hours of study and pay more attention to your academics more than you did last year. If you are grade D, and you want to move to grade B, that means you need to prepare to do more.”
He further explained that when we are talking about preparation, we are planning for a better you. To prepare for a better you, you must have a picture of what you want to be. There are certain exams and tests you write, and by reason of your preparation, you can say, ‘This one is an ‘A’ course even before you take the test.
This year, he said, has great and mighty things to offer us, and God as spoken that we are more than conquerors, that means, all through this year, you shall be victorious, according to Romans 8: 38 “In all these things, you are more than a conqueror through him that loves us.” So God is saying, your life shall be better this year, you will be victorious, and great things will begin to occur in your life this year. If you did not perform well academically last year, you would do better this year with preparation.
“Now God has spoken through his servant the Chancellor of what God has in stock for us, but it will take your preparation and my preparation to get there, so say to yourself I am more than a conqueror.” He added
In his remarks, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Abiodun Adebayo, welcomed the returning students and appreciated God for giving them a safe journey back to school, “I am glad we are here today, and I am glad God has brought each and every one of us back to campus to conclude the Alpha Semester of 2021/2022 academic session. We thank God for the New Year, a year of greatness, a year which God has vowed to make each and everyone more than a conqueror, including our Academics. I particularly want to welcome you, our returning students, and our freshmen who are coming to Covenant University for the first time.”
On this note, he admonished all the returning students as well as the freshmen, to make it a point of duty never to appear before the students’ disciplinary committee by staying out of trouble and anything that could implicate them. “Do your work; ensure you comply with the rules and regulations in this university”, he advised.
Earlier in his opening remarks, the Registrar, Dr. Oluwasegun Omidiora, wished the returning students a very Happy New Year, praying that the Lord who has brought them back to campus will walk with them throughout the new year.
Referencing a scripture in John 1: 1, which says, “In the beginning was the word,” he pointed out that this is another beginning for every one of the students. He admonished them to begin with God and the rest of the journey shall be good. He encouraged them to remember that time does not wait for anyone.
